Secular Franciscans are a community of Catholic men and women in the world who seek to pattern their lives after Christ in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. We believe that we cannot fulfill our vocation as human beings and as Christians alone. We join together in a community to nurture and support our commitment to live our lives according to the Gospel.

We are not a club or society, but an international Order founded by St. Francis of Assisi 800 years ago. There are approximately one thousand fraternities of Secular Franciscans scattered throughout the United States alone. Here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, our fraternity called the “Little Portion” after the first home of St. Francis and his early followers, meets monthly on the first Tuesday, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. In addition inquirers and candidates for membership meet at 6:30, before the monthly meeting, for an hour of formation and instruction in Franciscan life, ideals, and spirituality.

To contact us, please email Judy Gaspar, our minister, or Charlotte C. Prather, our director of formation. For more information on Secular Franciscans, visit the websites of our regional or national fraternities.

From our Rule Article 4
The rule and life of the Secular Franciscan is this: To observe the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ by following the example of St. Francis of Assisi, who made Christ the inspiration and the center of his life with God and people.
Christ, the gift of the Father’s love, is the way to him, the Truth into which the Holy Spirit leads us, and the life which he has come to give abundantly.
Secular Franciscans should devote themselves especially to careful reading of the gospel, going from gospel to life and life to the gospel.
