Liturgy

The Church ernestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations, called for by the very nature of the liturgy;... In the reform and promotion of the liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else. For it is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian spirit....
                                                                                                                 - Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 14

These lines from the first document of the Second Vatican Council should resonate strongly.  Whenever we gather to worship, the very act of standing together to pray sets Catholics apart from the rest of society. Our mission, as the People of God, is to shape and transform our lives and the lives of others, to be Christian people empowered by the words of holy scripture and nourished at the table of thanksgivig. Then, clearly, we must imitate Christ by assuming the best of others, serving and ministering to them with love, charity, and grace within our being.
